Saturday 25 July 2015 - Colonsay - probably the smallest island to host a rugby tournament - hosted the Fourth Colonsay Rugby Festival.
We welcomed new teams and also our returning teams:
Corry Vreckan (this is a new name, they came as Coll in 2014)
We were very sad that Islay could not come at the last minute.
The first Festival took place on 28th of July 2012 and was a fantastic success. Four men's and two women's teams took party in a great weekend of rugby and dancing. The men's winners were Oban Lorne, the women's were the Warthogs from Edinburgh and Stirling.
The second Festival was another resounding success. Some outstanding rugby played, with 3 new teams attending. Ochalochs were the victors after a brilliant final vs. Lomond. The Warthogs were victors for the second year playing two fantastic games.
The third Festival in July 2014 was even better. The standard of rugby has increased year on year and the family feeling and island welcome continues to make the festival very special. The final between Coll RFC and Oban RFC was very close, with Oban winning. Coll are determined to return in 2015 to take the trophy.
This fourth Festival was perhaps the best of them all. It was a glorious day. The standard of rugby increased again with two fabulous semi finals and then a tight final between Oban and Corry Vreckan with Corry Vreckan winning in the last minutes.
See our Facebook page for photos of all the Festivals.
Dave Beaumont, President of Strathendrick: "Great organisation, excellent banter between the teams, and a totally enjoyable atmosphere in a superb location, what more could we want?"
The 2016 Festival will be on 23 july 2016.
